There are restaurants with great food, and then there are restaurants that remind you why dining out is worth leaving home for. Il Brutto is firmly in the second category. From the moment we sat down, it was clear we were in good hands. Our server, Julian, didn’t just know the menu—he understood it. Every recommendation felt intentional, every pairing elevated the dish in front of us, and the entire evening unfolded with the kind of effortless hospitality that can’t be taught. Its ingrained. We started the meal with cocktails and a table full of appetizers. The wood-fired mushrooms were the surprise of the night. They’re proof that vegetables, when treated with enough respect, can steal the entire meal. The mussels were rich, briny, and made for shamelessly mopping up every last drop of broth with bread, while the heirloom tomato burrata tasted like peak summer with just enough restraint to let every ingredient shine. DaShawn took such good care of us tonight which was the standout accompaniment to the entire experience. While this is normally a delicious, exquisite meal that is well needed for all in the Austin area… it was DaShawn’s incredibly explicit attention to detail that really elevated the entire gastronomical experience. If you are visiting or in the area, or here for just a short period of your life, best find it at a table here at Il Brutto. The food is magnanimous, flavorful and the ambience is unlike any other, and the booths are even so comfortable that my voluptuous bum felt at home. From the moment I walked in, I had a really great experience. The host greeted me right away and got me a menu while I waited for my party. Dashawn, the manager, also came by to check on me while I was waiting, which I really appreciated. Once everyone got there, we got sat almost immediately. We had a really nice corner table inside the restaurant, which I loved because the whole aesthetic was beautiful. Even the chairs weirdly stood out to me because they were super stylish and honestly really comfortable. We started with a couple glasses of wine and the carpaccio with fig and the most buttery toast points. Everything was already hitting from the start. For entrées, my friend got the gnocchi, I had the lamb rack, and my other friend had the lamb bolognese. Everything was cooked really well and full of flavor. Adán, our server, was great the entire night. He stayed on top of everything, gave really solid suggestions, and we let him do kind of a roulette-style pick for the meat plate we got for the table. My friends and I went to Il Brutto while we were on my besties bachelorette trip in Austin. The restaurant was packed when we got there so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation like we did especially if you have a group. They were so great about asking us if we had any dietary needs or allergies and even had separate menus for our girls who do which was so helpful since a couple of the girls are vegetarian. Our server was kind and helpful. We ended up getting two appetizers for the table and an entree for each of us. For appetizers we got the Heirloom Tomatoes and the Roasted Beets. While they both tasted great, the price for both did not seem quite worth it so if I were to go back I’d probably skip the appetizers. For my main entree I got the Pappardelle Lamb Ragu which was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend it especially if you are a person who likes lamb. It was decadent and flavorful and absolutely the way to go. Other favorites from the night included the Gnocchi and Agnolotti. The vibes of the restaurant are beautiful and you will definitely feel fancy while dining there.

Atmosphere 10/10. Amazing date night spot. Went with my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day and it was so romantic outside. The cozze and burrata crositini were amazing. Pizza was good too (I don’t really care for pizza in general, but my boyfriend loved it). As for the pastas, we were a bit disappointed. I ordered the lamb ragu and there were hard bits of lamb. I don’t know if it was overcooked or just dried out, but it was really upsetting to chew. I tasted my boyfriend’s cacio e pepe and was not a fan… it just had a very unsettling taste. Overall, I would recommend this place for a date night spot!
